Answers To 5 Common Questions About Solar Energy

Americans have installed more than one million solar systems nationwide. If you’re reading this blog, chances are, you may have one of them!

According to SEIA, it took the United States 40 years to reach 1 million solar installations, but it will only take 2 years to reach 2 million. With solar on the rise, your neighbors may be starting to wonder if solar is right for them. They’ll likely have questions like: Will I save money? Do the panels require a lot of maintenance?

Be the MVP of your next block party by sharing a few of these facts about solar. Your neighbors will thank you.

1. How much work is involved in getting solar installed?

When you go solar with Sungevity, not much work is required of you. After you’ve selected your system and financing option, our local install partners will install your beautiful, custom designed solar system on your roof. Oh, and the installation is included at no extra cost to you.

2. Do solar panels require a lot of maintenance?

Very little maintenance is required. You don’t even have to wash your panels – typically, natural patterns of wind and rainfall will do the work for you! Normal dust and debris on the panels will not significantly impact solar production. If you choose to clean the panels to keep them looking like new, you are welcome to hose them down with water from the ground level – just don’t climb on your roof and risk hurting yourself.

3. Will I save money?

Most people that go solar with Sungevity do. The amount you save depends on several factors, including your roof’s shading and how much electricity you use in your home.* Learn more about how we calculate savings here.

4.  Can I finance my system?

Typically yes, depending on your eligibility and solar provider’s options. Solar companies like Sungevity have multiple options to choose from. Financing through a PPA or lease can make it possible to go solar for as little as $0 down upfront, or you could choose to purchase your system outright and enjoy solar free from monthly payments.**

5. What if I have more questions?

Bring ‘em on! Sungevity is known for our high-quality customer experience. We’ve helped thousands of homeowners go solar, so we’ve probably heard your question before. Just email us at [email protected], or if you’re a Sungevity customer, reach out at [email protected].

*Your actual savings will vary and are dependent on several factors, including your payment plan, system production, geography, weather, shade, electricity usage, and utility rate structures and rate increases. **System size, cost and availability vary according to location, electricity usage and utility company. A 5 KW system lease starts at $40-$140/month for 20 years on approved credit. Payment terms vary and may include fixed payments or escalating payments at a rate of 1.5-2.9% annually for 20 years. Zero due at lease signing. No security deposit required.
