Agathe Christie remains one of the most-read and loved mystery writers in the genre. One of her most famous creations was the intrepid Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Poirot's character became a favorite among her readers, but for some reason, Christie really started to dislike him. She once explained that he was a "...detestable, bombastic, tiresome, egocentric little creep."

But even her distaste for her own creation couldn't dull the passions of the public, and when she did finally kill Poirot off. the New York Times ran an obituary for him.
