Charles E. Farnsworth, lawyer, mediator, arbitrator, and former Marine officer, received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas, master’s degree from Mills College, and law degree from Stanford University. “Whirlwind & Storm” is based on the letters and diaries of his great-grandfather, Lieutenant Colonel Charles (“Charlie”) Farnsworth of the First Connecticut Cavalry Volunteers, during the Civil War and then in Reconstruction Georgia. The transcribed documents, which are included, have been supplemented by research in Norwich, Connecticut and Savannah, Georgia, where the colonel died in 1867. The author and his wife Elizabeth have two grown children and live in Berkeley, California. This is his first book.
