J. K. Rowling is now world-famous as a result of her many million-copy selling Harry Potter books, but her real name is actually just J. (for Joanne) Rowling. Rowling was never given and so does not have a middle name. Her publisher suggested that she should have two initials prior to her last name and so she borrowed her grandmother's name: Kathleen.
